EVA foam shoe soles are typically formulated with EVA/PE/POE resins, fillers such as calcium carbonate and talc, AC foaming agents, crosslinking agent (DCP), activators like zinc oxide and zinc stearate, and lubricants such as stearic acid. While this system is well established, production challenges become more obvious as manufacturers push toward softer and lighter products.
One of the most common issues is shrinkage. When soft EVA grades or POE content is increased to achieve a softer feel, the foam structure becomes less stable. This often leads to dimensional variation, inconsistent left-right shoe sizes, and higher rejection rates in mass production.
Another challenge is mold sticking. In many traditional formulations, low-molecular-weight additives such as zinc compounds and fatty acid lubricants can migrate during foaming. This increases surface contamination of the mold, resulting in difficult demolding, frequent cleaning, and reduced production efficiency.
In addition, very soft EVA foam does not always deliver a premium consumer feel. Instead of a resilient and supportive texture, the material may feel overly loose or “hollow,” which reduces perceived quality in footwear applications.
ZT-PORE40T is a low-hardness polar elastomer designed specifically for EVA foam systems. It is used as a partial replacement for soft EVA in footwear formulations. By improving compatibility within the polymer system, it helps maintain softness while enhancing structural stability.
In practical applications, ZT-PORE40T has shown a significant reduction in shrinkage from 6.51% to 4.53% without affecting density or hardness levels. It also improves demolding performance, reduces mold sticking issues, and enhances surface smoothness and wrinkle resistance. In addition, it contributes to better slip resistance balance and improved bonding performance in finished footwear.
ZT-PORE40T is widely recommended for EVA slippers, clogs, children’s shoes, EVA midsoles, and recovery sandals, especially in low-expansion foam systems with an expansion ratio below 1.55.
Overall, instead of simply increasing softness through resin adjustment, ZT-PORE40T provides a more balanced approach—helping manufacturers achieve soft feel, stable processing, and consistent product quality in modern EVA footwear production.
