DOTP vs DOP Plasticizer – Key Differences for PVC Applications

DOTP (Dioctyl Terephthalate) and DOP (Dioctyl Phthalate) are two widely used PVC plasticizers, but they serve different market needs.

DOP is a traditional phthalate plasticizer known for good compatibility with PVC and attractive pricing. It is commonly used in general flexible PVC products such as films, sheets, artificial leather, and footwear where cost efficiency is the main focus.

DOTP is a terephthalate plasticizer with a more stable molecular structure. Compared with DOP, DOTP offers lower volatility, better migration resistance, and stronger electrical insulation performance. These advantages make DOTP suitable for PVC cables and wires, flooring, toys, and applications requiring long-term durability.

From a performance perspective, both provide good plasticizing efficiency, but DOTP performs better in high-temperature processing and long-term aging. In terms of market trend, DOTP is increasingly selected as an alternative to DOP in export-oriented and higher-standard PVC products.

How to choose?

  • Choose DOP for cost-sensitive, general-purpose PVC applications.

  • Choose DOTP for products requiring improved stability, safety, and service life.

VIKEM NEW MATERIAL supplies DOTP, DOP, and DOA plasticizers with stable quality and export-ready packaging, supporting PVC manufacturers worldwide.
