In the formulation of rigid PVC, selecting the right impact modifier is crucial for achieving high toughness, smooth processing, and long-term stability. The three most common types are Acrylic (AIM), MBS, and CPE — each offering distinct performance benefits for different PVC applications.
Acrylic Impact Modifiers (AIM), made from methyl methacrylate and acrylate monomers, feature a unique core–shell structure that provides excellent impact strength, gloss, and weatherability. AIM is widely used in PVC profiles, sheets, pipes, and SPC flooring, where outdoor durability and surface quality are key.
MBS modifiers (Methyl Methacrylate–Butadiene–Styrene) deliver high toughness and transparency, making them ideal for clear or indoor PVC products such as films and packaging materials. However, they are less suitable for outdoor exposure due to limited UV resistance.
CPE (Chlorinated Polyethylene) is valued for its flexibility and cost efficiency. It improves low-temperature impact strength in PVC pipes, fittings, and cables, though it may slightly reduce surface gloss.
At Weifang Vikem New Material, we supply a full range of PVC additives, including the VIKEM-K Series Acrylic Impact Modifiers, designed to combine superior mechanical strength, processing stability, and cost performance for global PVC manufacturers.
